The Easter Strong Word – March 2012

Come on and Celebrate, says the song, his gift of love, we will celebrate, the son of God who loves us and gave his life…come on and celebrate, celebrate and sing to the King.

Easter is the time when we do indeed celebrate, the love of God. It is a time when we know it is not just words because words can be cheap, but the love of God that is proved by the sacrifice of Jesus on Good Friday. Then the power of God is demonstrated for all to see in Jesus’ resurrection from the dead after 3 days in the grave.

Jesus appeared to many people after his resurrection, and we also witness that we have seen him at work in our lives and circumstances. He forgives our sins and restores our souls.

Without the resurrection, Paul the Apostle tells us, our faith is in vain. If Christ has not been raised then preaching and faith is useless (I Cor 15.14). For the resurrection of Jesus, who is the firstborn of the new creation, brings us hope that we to shall not perish but will have everlasting life by faith in him. Death is swallowed up in victory.

So as we enjoy our Easter Breakfast, as we celebrate with communion and with hymns of praise to God, as we remember the most significant event in all history may we feel the desire to recommit ourselves to the Lord, to be used in his work for the extension of his kingdom into new hearts and new lives. Let us renew our expectations that we shall one day live in heaven with him. Until then we celebrate Easter and say in our hearts :-

“Thanks Be to God who gives to us victory through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ”.

Suggestion:- Why not read about the resurrection in I Corinthians 15 before coming to church on Easter Day?
